Icarus Magazine

A two-colour literary magazine designed as a folding poster within a limited budget.

We used the production constraints as the central design idea, creating an economical object with an unusual reading experience.

Case study

Icarus Issue 122 was designed as a folding poster using two colours to meet a limited production budget.

The poster format created a typesetting challenge: the content had to read correctly from page to page once folded into book form.

The work received an ICAD nomination for magazine and book design, a JMC Papers Review nomination for magazine design, and the Arjowiggins Fine Papers Designer of the Month award.
